Self-7xve III – Exclusive Listening Party

On October 11th, I had the privilege of attending a private music listening party hosted by hip-hop music artist 7xve The Genius, in Buffalo, New York, as she gave an early presentation of her highly anticipated album, Self 7xve 3, to an exclusive group of industry peers days before its October 14th release. During the session, she spoke to me about the process of creating the album, which is the third chapter of a musical trilogy.
7xve The Genius is more than an artist on the rise; she is a self-made hip-hop music sensation and savvy businesswoman, owning her own record label, Broadband Sound. She has set herself on a path of success in the music industry, securing a distribution deal with music mogul and rap icon Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Distribution company, in partnership with her music label. Additionally, she has previously released her critically acclaimed album, “Death of Duece,” under Buffalo rap legend Conway the Machine’s record label, Drumwork Music Group.

7xve The Genius – Is A Musical Genius

She has gained recognition as a supreme emcee in the hip-hop genre, known for her thought-provoking lyricism and boom-bap instrumentation in her music. A professional in her craft, 7xve has featured and collaborated with rap veterans and music legends such as Papoose, Monie Love, Raheem Devaughn, Conway the Machine, & more. Her sound can be viewed as a musical storybook, highlighting the release of her three most recent albums, Self-7xe 1, 2, and 3, which are architecturally structured to flow in sequence with each other.

During our conversation at her event, she stated she wanted us, as peers, to share our honest opinions of the project. I noted to myself, upon hearing Self-7xve 3, that the overall synopsis of the album goes through the various phases of love, from the blissful beginnings of dating, into the whirlwind challenges and turmoil that can develop over time in a union, ultimately leading to a break-up and making the final decision to move forward. It conveys a series of emotions, including blissfulness and anger. Soundwise, the album has a very relaxing melodic boom-bap tone. This project has the full recipe for success, as 7xve The Genius released two music videos, “Windows” and “Worthy” ft. Flames Dot Malik the week of its release. In September, she shared a visualizer for her single, Pedals, with Reuben Vincent .

Our Exclusive Video Conversation Plus Q&A

Stepping into my exclusive one-on-one video interview,  after the event, she gracefully shared details behind the scenes about the overall process of making this album, viewable below. Lastly, in this feature is a written Q&A, clarifying her current record label status, how her collaboration with hip-hop icon Monie Love came together for her track ‘Save Yourself’ on Self-7xve 3, and much more!

7xve The Genius Q&A:

Q: What was it like collaborating with Monie Love? How did you all meet and make this collaboration happen on the album?

A: Collaborating with Moni Love was very authentic, very nice. I met her at a show, one of Conway’s shows. I met her in Sarac there, and we’ve been in communication ever since then. So I just sent her a record, and it went like that.

Q: Are you still signed with Drumwork Music Group for this project, correct? Did Conway the Machine have any input on the music?

A: I’m not signed to Drumwork anymore, so Conway didn’t have any input on the music. The only project I ever put out on Drumwork is Death of Deuce, but every other project, including Self Love 3, is on my label. It’s called Broadband Sound.

Q: Also, when did you sign your distribution deal with Roc Nation, and your overall experience?

A: I have a distribution with Roc Nation. I’ve been with Roc Nation since the Genius Tape. So I put the Genius Tape out with Green Lantern. I did that on Broadband Sound with Roc Nation, so that was the first one. And then this album, Self Love 3, is on Roc Nation Distribution.

Q: Is there a tour in the works, seeing this project is a completion of a 3-part Trilogy?

A: Is there a tour in the works? I’m getting it set up. I don’t have anything to announce, but me and Che Noir have an album coming out this year, too, and we have a show we’re going to do in January in New York City.

Che Noir Collab:

Che Noir is a talented emcee and music artist from Upstate New York who has gained significant attention for her hard-hitting lyrics and unique sound. She is also an independent artist signed to her own label, Poetic Movement. The two ladies have recently shared a new single entitled “Desired Crowns” on all music streamers. This song adds to their collection of numerous singles produced together. Be sure to click here to download 7xve The Genius Self-7xve III.
