Teacher Terminated After 1st Day:
A substitute teacher in Mississippi was dismissed on her very first day at work after sharing a TikTok video that included a remark allegedly directed at an underage female student, prompting significant online criticism. Twenty-four-year-old Miata Borders was terminated from her position at Lake Cormorant High School on October 17, 2025, after she filmed herself referring to a student as “shorty” during a school pep rally parade.
Teacher Goes Viral With Video:
Borders, who claims to be a “content creator” under the username “handmade CEO,” on Tik-Tok, had posted a vlog documenting her first experience as a substitute teacher. The now deleted video on TikTok, amassed more than 2.2 million views, featuring clips of her walking through hallways, speaking from a lectern, and sitting at a classroom desk with her feet up. The controversial comment occurred during the pep rally segment, where she filmed the cheerleaders and band members performing, laughing as she said, “Damn, shorty, sheesh,” followed by, “Man, I gotta get up after these school kids tryna take me down.”
School District Takes Action:
The clip was deemed inappropriate and quickly caught the attention of DeSoto County Schools administrators, who terminated Borders’ immediately. Since she was employed through the staffing company Kelly Services, district officials notified the agency that she would no longer be permitted to work within the school system.
Substitute Teacher Explains:
In a response video shared later that week, Borders defended herself, saying she didn’t realize recording students was against school policy. “I had absolutely no idea I couldn’t record students, or else I definitely wouldn’t have done it,” she said, clarifying that her videos were intended purely for content creation and not for any inappropriate purpose. She also claimed school leaders knew about her online presence and that most of her clips were filmed when she was alone. Borders expressed regret over the incident, saying she had “lost everything over one mistake.”
Tik-Tok Bans Her:
However, the damage was already done as her video spread rapidly online specifically on the social media platform Tik-Tok. It garnered viral reactions from a slew of content creators expressing their disgust with the woman’s inappropriate behavior around her underage students. Users flooded the comment sections of numerous videos on her Tik-Tok page scolding the former “educator.” Viewers also complained about additional videos on her page with Borders seemingly displaying adult-like suggestive poses, which would be considered offensive for an educator to post online. Shockingly, those videos were posted months prior to her hiring at the high school. Leaving onlookers to speculate whether the school thoroughly conducted a background check before giving Borders the position. Their concerns weren’t unnoticed by the Tik-Tok, as Borders account was subsequently deleted and banned from the platform after amassing millions of views and gaining thousands of followers.
