Tyla & Halle Bailey Speak Out After Viral Reactions

Tyla did not hesitate to address X platform users on Wednesday night (Sept. 11) following her viral moment at the 2024 Video Music Awards. Halle Bailey and Lil Nas X had the honor of presenting the South African singer with the ‘Best Afrobeat’ trophy. However, Tyla surprised viewers by requesting assistance with her “heavy” award, stating, “Oh my gosh, you guys know me and holding awards. I’m not strong enough. Please, please, are you able to hold it for me,” into the microphone. While facing Lil Nas and Halle, she made the request. Halle Bailey dressed in her glamorous red Sophia Couture dress did not move an inch, Lil Nas X then stepped forward in his striking ensemble to hold the trophy.

Acceptance Speech

Subsequently, Tyla delivered her acceptance speech for the ‘Water’ win and emphasized the significance of African artists venturing beyond Afrobeat. It is worth noting that the 22-year-old South African artist is reportedly the first to receive a Moon Person Award. Shortly after the video clip of the awkward incident went viral and caused a frenzy among X platform users.

Fans tried to create a narrative that both Tyla and Halle did not see eye to eye. However, the singers collectively debunk the rumors of friction between them making individual posts. Tyla addressed the confusion directly tweeting on X, “Y’all make everything weird….I was not asking my girl Halle…We just girls, STFU I WON A VMAAAA.”
