Sean Kingston And Mother Found Guilty In Wire Fraud Case

Singer-rapper Sean Kingston, 35, and his mother, Janice Turner, 62, were found guilty in a Fort Lauderdale federal courtroom on five charges related to wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Prosecutors alleged the “Beautiful Girls” singer participated in a $1 million scheme involving various luxury items alongside his mother.

Turner was immediately taken into custody upon the guilty verdict being read. According to News 10, Sean Kingston cried in shock, telling U.S. Marshals, “Protect my mother.” Reportedly, the judge believed Turner would be a flight risk due to her testimony on the stand. However, Kingston was allowed to leave the courthouse after the verdict. Being placed in home detention, he is required to honor his bond request by Thursday. Kingston’s lawyers presented the musician as a “child” with a lack of knowledge surrounding finances during the trial. Subsequently causing him to overspend on lavish items as an excuse for his alleged fraudulent crimes. News 10 states Kingson must pay a “surety bond worth $200,000 and put up a family member’s $500,000 house.

The sentencing date for Kingston and his mother has been scheduled for July 11. A wire fraud conviction carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years. Watch Kingston exiting the courthouse on March 28th, following his conviction below.

Mother and Son Arrested Last Year

Last year, Kingston was arrested and booked on May 23rd, 2024, in California, just days after his mother, Janice Turner, was arrested at their South Florida home during a raid. Authorities claim at the time of the raid, Kingston was also being sued for alleged theft for allegedly not paying a 150K debt on entertainment equipment he acquired.

After his mother’s arrest, Kingston (who was in California at the time) spoke out via his Instagram. “People love negative energy I am good and so is my mother!.. my lawyers are handling everything as we speak,” he wrote.

However, Kingston’s legal troubles continued to pile, as he was eventually arrested under 10 additional fraud charges. Authorities say Sean and his mother, Janice Turner allegedly ripped off a jeweler; stealing almost $500k worth of jewelry.

Associated Press states, “The warrants in the case say that from October to March they stole almost $500,000 in jewelry, more than $200,000 from Bank of America, $160,000 from the Escalade dealer, more than $100,000 from First Republic Bank and $86,000 from the maker of customized beds. Specifics were not given.”

Kingston was held without bond in California. He was arrested on May 23rd, 2024, at Fort Irwin, an Army training base in California’s Mojave Desert where he performed.

He then fought for extradition to Florida which was granted. AP states, “Kingston, 34, was booked into the Broward County jail on Sunday, according to jail records.”

Once in custody in Florida, the judge granted him bail. Kingston was released from police custody on Wednesday (June 5, 2024) on a $100,000 bond. Billboard and TMZ reported this.
