10 Women Rappers Killing the Game Right Now
Every generation, women hip-hop artists come around, flipping a male-dominated game on its head. With the Queen Latifahs, Roxanne Chantes, Da Brats, Lil Kims, and Missy Elliotts who paved the way for the future of hip-hop, this era of artists are students of the game, who continue to push the envelope forward through their own unique sounds. As they carve out their legacies in their own right, we can’t help but give these ladies their flowers.
Though its our prerogative to celebrate women in rap year-round, — and not only during Womens History Month — we’ve got quite a few artists we’re keeping our ears open for over the course of this year.
Ann Marie
Chicago rapper Ann Marie is overdue for her flowers. Upon listening to her duel album Pain Never Looked This Good, there’s no doubt she’s got bars, but she’s also gifted at singing. Whichever side she’s giving, you can expect her to be blunt and direct — and as evidenced on her latest mixtape, Scorpiann, she’s not afraid to hurt your feelings in the process.
Doechii
This year was bound to be the year of Doechii. She kicked off 2025 with her cinematic visual for “Denial is a River,” an instant fan favorite from her debut full length mixtape, Alligator Bites Never Heal. In February, the mixtape earned her the Best Rap Album award at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony. Since then, she hasn’t taken her foot off the gas. She recently dropped “Anxiety,” a deep cut from her mixtape days, on streaming service. Not to mention, she’s been hard at work on her debut album.
FendiDa Rappa
Chicago rapper FendiDa Rappa doesn’t shy away from women empowerment. Her latest single, “Baddest” is an ode to the baddest bitches. Back in 2023, she went viral with her single “Point Me To The Sluts,” reclaiming the sex game often dominated by men, encouraging women to embrace the power of their sexuality. With no bars withheld, Fendi is the hard core, raunchy rapper the game needs right now.
Flau’jae
Hailing from Savannah, Georgia, Flau’jae Johnson is a triple threat. Known mononymously as Flau’jae, the up-and-coming hip-hop artist is a basketball star at LSU and the host of the Best of Both Worlds podcast. Last summer, she dropped her Best of Both Worlds EP, which boasted collabs with Lil Wayne and NLE Choppa. Last month, she showed her softer side of her R&B EP, Flau & B. As the daughter of late rapper Camoflauge, Flau’jae is carrying on her father’s legacy through scorching, motivational bars and perseverance.
Flo Milli
Last year, Flo made waves with her viral track, “Never Lose Me,” which received a co-sign from SZA and Cardi B on the remix. Though she’s been in the game for quite a few years now, Flo is gearing up for her moment in the pop spotlight. Her Tate McRae collab “bloodonmyhands” is an early contender for song of the summer, plus, she’s been hard at work in the studio working on new music. Through pure femininity and southern charm, it’s no wonder why Flo has us captivated.
GloRilla
Memphis rapper GloRilla is holding it down for the dirty south. Earlier this year, she charmed the Saturday Night Live stage with epic performances of her viral tracks “Yeah Glo” and “Whatchu Kno About Me.” Her appearance in a skit alongside Dave Chapelle also showcased her comedic timing. Though she dropped both a mixtape and an album last year, fans want more. And if she maintains her track record, Glo is bound to drop some heat in time for the summer.
Jorjiana
Hip-Hop thrives when artists uplift each other, and on her single “ILBB2,” Detroit rapper Jorjiana uplifts GloRilla, as the two proclaim “I love bad bitches too.“ Representing for the Latinas, Jorjiana knows who she is as an artist, and isn’t interested in beef. She’d rather see all the ladies win.
Megan Thee Stallion
With over a decade in the game, Megan Thee Stallion hasn’t lost her momentum. As evidenced by her “Rapunzel” collaboration with K-Pop singer Lisa, Meg is exploring new sounds and thriving across different creative avenues. Last year, the Houston Hottie dropped two albums, and she’s not letting up anytime soon. Her next project, Megan Act III is expected to drop this year — hopefully in time to be the soundtrack to our hot girl summer.
Rapsody
If Rapsody’s album Please Don’t Cry wasn’t on any of your year-end lists last year, do yourself a favor and tap in. Through robust flows and conscious bars, Rapsody is an incredible storyteller — one who only comes once in a lifetime. Thankfully, her music is timeless, so it’s never too late to catch up.
Rico Nasty
If rappers are the new rockstars, then Rico Nasty is the face of the game. Unfiltered and honest to a fault, Rico’s raw energy pairs well with brash, guitar-and-percussion-driven instrumentals. Known to scream out her bars, Rico is a student of both the rap and rock, and with her new album Lethal dropping in May, 2025 will be the year you stop sleeping on her.
