According to TMZ, singer Alicia Keys and Roc Nation made a generous donation to save a New York City school’s performing arts programs. A 12-year-old student created a GoFundMe in an attempt to keep the Professional Performing Arts School program active. Budget cuts are threatening to shut down the program indefinitely. The student sent a goal to raise $102,000 to put toward the program.

Alicia Was A Former Student

Alicia Keys – who was once a student at that school says the Daily Mail heard about the fundraiser and collaborated with Roc Nation to donate $60,000 reportedly.

As a result, the fundraiser is gaining momentum with media attention. The students explained the importance of the Performing Arts Program in a statement on their GoFundMe.

The students expressed, “Hi! We are the 7th grade students at The Professional Performing Arts School in NYC. Due to unfortunate budget cuts our performing arts program was cut short and will be ending early in April for both middle school and high school! This affects hundreds of students and we are heartbroken to have such a horrible thing happen. Please help donate to bring back our program that brought so many students joy, and made their dreams come true! Thank you so much, we really appreciate you making a difference in the children that are the future of our world!”

Everyone Is Pitching In

In the meantime, Alicia Keys and Roc Nation are not stopping there; as they have vowed to continue to help the program raise money each year forward. This is until the city has enough income to fund it themselves. The program has received 600 donations so far.
