Bronny James: To Play G-League Home Games
Bronny James, the son of Lakers star Lebron James, plans to participate only in home games for the South Bay Lakers of the G League, according to a source close to the player. This decision will likely result in a limited season for the 20-year-old. He was selected as the 55th overall pick in the NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. He was signed to a guaranteed NBA contract, appearing in six NBA games, averaging 16 minutes of playing time. However, things would shift as it was announced that Bronny would be playing in the G-League part-time simultaneously this season.
He made his G League debut last weekend for South Bay, which plays at the Lakers training facility in El Segundo, California, scoring six points on 2-of-9 shooting. A source reportedly confirmed with The New York Times that the baller would play only home games with South Bay’s Lakers G-league team.
Games, Schedule, Contracts
The South Bay Lakers are set to play 24 home games this season, with the next one on Sunday against the Stockton Kings. Bronny has the potential for growth in the coming months with his time on the South Bay Lakers; one can only wonder if limiting his G League appearances with the team will hinder his development. Bronny played for only one year in college and had a low scoring percentage.
According to NYT, Bronny James signed a $7.9 million contract for four seasons, with the first three seasons guaranteed. This means that even if James continues his lackluster performance on the court for the next three seasons, his spot will be solidified on the Lakers team. The biggest question is whether Lebron James’ son can improve his skills over the next few years to gain the respect of the various naysayers and critics doubting his abilities.
