Plies Files Lawsuit Against Soulja Boy, GloRilla, Cardi B, and Megan Thee Stallion
Rapper Plies’ lawyer is speaking out after he filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against rappers GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion for allegedly sampling his 2008 song ‘Me and My Goons’ for their 2024 track ‘Wanna Be’ unauthorized later featuring Cardi B on the remix. He also filed suit against Soulja Boy for sampling the same track for his 2010 hit song ‘Pretty Boy Swag’. He claims Soulja Boy had a good-faith agreement with Plies to sample his track, which expired TMZ reports.
LilJuMadeDaBeat, the producer of Megan’s ‘Wanna Be’ track, is firing back, claiming he did not sample Plies while making the record, stating he sampled Soulja Boy.
Meanwhile, fans have suggested Plies drew inspiration for his song from Lil Wil’s club hit “My Dougie,” which came out a few months earlier.
Walter describes the situation as a classic case of misinformation spreading like a game of telephone. However, musicologists confirmed that the sample in question actually originated from Plies’ track “Me & My Goons.” As a result, the lawsuit is proceeding for now—unless a settlement is in the works! The lawsuit also lists Meg’s Hot Girl Productions, Soulja’s former imprint Collipark Productions, and record labels Universal Music Group, Collective Music Group and Interscope as defendants.
