Racist Texts Sent Nationwide To Black Americans After Trumps Reelection

Days after Donald Trump’s reelection in the USA, racist text messages targeting Black Americans are spreading across social media, and the FBI is now investigating the disturbing trend. According to a statement released Thursday, the FBI is aware of the offensive messages being sent to individuals nationwide and is in communication with the Justice Department and other federal agencies.

The FBI also encouraged the public to report any threats of physical violence to local law enforcement. The texts, some of which are labeled as coming from “A TRUMP SUPPORTER,” inform recipients that they have been chosen to be enslaved and assigned to pick cotton on a plantation.” These messages, circulating on social media in viral screenshots, have been reported across several states.

Though they are targeting various individuals and groups, a significant number of the recipients appear to be Black college and university students. Universities such as Clemson University, Ohio State, and the University of Alabama, along with other schools in Alabama, have been identified as locations where the messages have been received. While the specifics of the messages differ, they all share a similar script, and some are even more unsettling due to the inclusion of the recipients’ first names, further personalizing the harassment. This targeted campaign of hate and intimidation has raised concerns among students and communities across the country.
