Nick Cannon Reveals Insecurities In Marriage With Mariah Carey
Nick Cannon recently discussed the insecurities he experienced during his marriage to music icon Mariah Carey on the “Ray Daniels Presents” podcast. The 44-year-old comedian reflected on how the relationship impacted his sense of self, particularly after their 2008 wedding. He revealed that the dynamics of their partnership led him to question his own identity amid the challenges they faced.
“I didn’t actually really care what the world thought because the perception, you know, that is what it is. People are going to love you one day, hate you the next day,” Nick Cannon said during the episode. “I could care less about that. … But going to myself with that pressure of, ‘Who am I?’
“I got married in my 20s, you know what I mean? To the biggest star in the world,” he added. “My trajectory was here,” he said, gesturing downwards, “and then hers — she’s already in a different stratosphere.”
The pair married in the Bahamas in 2008 and welcomed twins, Moroccan and Monroe, in 2011. They would eventually finalize their divorce in 2016 after reportedly separating in 2014. Despite the ending of their union, Nick Cannon always seemed to carry a significant amount of respect for his ex-wife. He is noted in several interviews singing her praises. During his conversation with The Shaderoom in 2023, Cannon stated, “I get a lot of this delightful disposition from her,” he told the blog. “She’s just always happy, always doing for others. No matter what’s happening in life. I’m like, ‘Wow, a person can really operate like that and don’t allow negative energy into their space.’ When I found that out, about how remarkable she was, that woman is not human. She’s a gift from God.
