At the age of 20, with only one single released, British musician Nia Smith has achieved notable success. She is presenting her latest single titled ‘Personal’ today. Stream song here.

Production & Instrumentation!

“Personal” is a melodic record produced by Grammy-award-winner Jimmy Napes and Ed Thomas. Their credits includes work with Stormzy and Jorja Smith. Nia Smith states; “I made this song with people I love. We had a lot of fun writing Personal for sure. It’s about letting go of that bad energy, we don’t need that in 2024. period. Nothing personal but you’ve got to do what’s best for you.”

With a smooth and understated instrumental opening, Nia’s striking vocals come to the forefront in ‘Personal’. The commanding presence of her voice reinforces the song’s message, as Nia Smith asserts herself and expresses her views to an unidentified individual. Conducted with a composed sense of indignation and potent tranquility, the lyrics further demonstrate Nia’s level of maturity, which belies her years. This release follows her previous track, ‘Give Up The Fear’, which garnered recognition from notable sources such as NME, Line Of Best Fit, Wonderland, and Rolling Stone UK. Nia is also riding the momentum from her debut single, ‘Give Up The Fear’.

Life & Musical Inspiration!

Nia began writing songs at the age of 14 and quickly expanded her musical abilities by learning to play the guitar and piano. Nia has attended a series of esteemed music schools, including the Brit School and ELAM. Her passion for music was ignited by her father’s diverse record collection. This accessibility gave her an array of musical influences ranging from Aretha Franklin to Lauryn Hill, Adele, and Amy Winehouse. Expressing her fond memories, she recalls taking her father’s iPod to study and memorize song lyrics.

In addition, Nia gained attention through her captivating covers and song clips on TikTok, and she has demonstrated her talent as a live performer, having supported Mahalia in Manchester in 2021 and Tems at London’s Koko the following year. In 2023, she sold out her first ever solo event at BeauBeaus. Nia’s hard work and dedication have led her to present her art to the world.
