Detroit Teacher Fired For Rapping
A Detroit teacher was allegedly fired by a charter school district after a parent complained about the teacher’s rap career. Domonique Brown once named “teacher of the month”, was terminated from her teaching position at Taylor Preparatory High School. This is after Brown’s rap music began making rounds on social media under her stage moniker Drippin Honey. Brown revealed in an Instagram post. “Recently, I was forced to leave my position due to me being a Rapper,” Brown states.“A single parent’s disapproval led to my dismissal.”
Parent Filed Complaint
Although she’s been teaching for nearly 7 years the teacher claimed a parent anonymously made a complaint in October after the release of one of her songs entitled “Drippin 101”. Since then Domonique Brown has been subject to multiple meetings with school officials in hopes of saving her teaching career.

“The first meeting was with my dean and my principal and they were just telling me, ‘Hey, a parent said that they’ve seen your social media and that you’re a bad influence because you’re a rapper,’” Domonique Brown told WJBK.
She Recorded Music Video With Students
Amid continuous complaints, Domonique Brown had to decide between her teacher job and her aspiring rap career. She claimed the school district eventually requested her to delete her music videos on YouTube. Something she refused to do. Brown along with several of her students filmed a music video together after her termination in February. The video has over 100,000 views on YouTube currently.
Wrongfully Terminated?
During her interview with WJBK news, she expressed, that her outside life shouldn’t be grounds for termination.
“My outside life should not be grounds for termination when it does not interfere with my ability to fulfill my responsibilities as a teacher,” she said. “My dedication, professionalism, and passion for education have always been unwavering, regardless of any personal pursuits I may have.”
