A woman in Charleston,West Virginia saved the lives of several party goers after shooting and killing a gunman who opened fire on a group of people with a semi-automatic rifle.
The deceased suspect Dennis Butler reportedly opened fire after allegedly being instructed to slow down while driving in an area children were playing at the party. Bulter became enraged and began to shoot several rounds from an AR-15 style semi-automatic rifle into the crowd of over 40 people. The woman, whose name has not been released; immediately sprung into action firing back at the gunman killing him instantly.
The neighborhood and law enforcement has acknowledge the woman as a hero after this heroic act. It was later clarified the woman would not be charged for killing the gunman. Authorities stated the woman had been lawfully carrying her weapon as she was licensed to carry.
Dennis Butler 37, had an extensive criminal record. According to Daily Mail, “he also faced unlawful and malicious wounding charges in 2016 after a woman was shot in Charleston”.
Thankfully, the only person injured and killed was the gunman, who was fatally shot by the woman while firing at the large crowd.
This shooting happened Wednesday, May 25 just a day after the mass elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
