Dwyane Wade Gets Honored By Miami Heat
On Sunday, retired NBA star Dwyane Wade was honored by his former Miami Heat team with an 8-foot bronze sculpture made in his likeness, unveiled in front of the Kaseya Center. Wade was drafted by the Miami Heat in 2003 as the fifth overall pick. He would have a historic career with the team, winning three championship rings during his 16-year NBA career.
Dwyane Wade’s Reaction Breaks The Internet
Although Dwyane Wade made an impromptu speech, graciously thanking the NBA and Miami Heat for the prestigious honor at the unveiling, many fans online expressed they felt the statue did not resemble Wade’s likeness.
“I was just like, ‘That’s beautiful,” Wade said during a news conference Sunday when asked about the moment that his statue was unveiled. “I’m biased, but I think it’s one of the best statues that’s been created because of what it represents for us and for me,” the Miami Herald notes. However, a video of Dwyane Wade’s initial reaction to the statue is going viral. In the clip, the baller jokes about the statue, asking, “Who is that guy?” This led fans to paint a narrative Wade wasn’t pleased with the sculpture.
