Martin Lawrence Announces The Return Of Martin Show?
Martin Lawrence is bringing back his 90s sitcom ‘Martin’ with a twist. According to Deadline, the iconic comedian follows in the footsteps of his Bad Boys film co-star Will Smith, creating a prequel drama series for his former hit TV show. ‘Young Martin’ is a new series made by Martin Lawrence’s production company RunTelDat, in collaboration with Marvin Peart‘s WonderHill Studios.

From Comedy To Drama
The dramatized series centers around Martin’s iconic character, Martin Payne, during his adolescence. It highlights his life challenges as he transitions from teenager to young adult. In addition, Payne’s character and storyline are reimagined in a non-comedic sense. Furthermore, the series location will be based in modern Detroit, the same location as the original ‘Martin’.
Martin Lawrence Collabs With Several Producers
The show’s producers include Lawrence, Rae Proctor, Robert Lawrence, and Stacy Lyles from RunTelDat. Also, with Bob Yari, David McPherson, Rosa Peart, and Greg Martin for WonderHill Studios. WonderHill Studios CEO Marvin Peart expressed his enthusiasm regarding collaborating with Martin Lawrence on the project. “Out of all the hit shows during the 90’s, there was only one Martin — a show that defined culture and positivity. Martin reflected a real group of friends from our community that wound up on TV screens all over the world,” he told Deadline.
Finally, he expressed, “I respected and revered Martin Lawrence for creating Martin Payne and what he did for African Americans on television in front and behind the camera. In many ways, he influenced my path in the entertainment industry and it’s an honor to partner with Martin and his younger self and share him with the next generation of fans.”
Martin Sitcom Legacy Continues
Martin’s original sitcom ran from 1992 to 1997, airing five seasons on Fox Networks. The show’s popularity cemented Martin Lawrence as a comedic great, earning several accolades, including People’s Choice and NAACP Image awards. Martin’s cast reunited early this year for a hilarious skit at the Emmy Awards. Bringing viewers 90s nostalgia from the unforgettable series. Martin confirmed the news via his Instagram with a photo with the caption “Coming Soon #YoungMartin”
