The family of George Floyd has filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit against Kanye West for his statements regarding George Floyd death on ‘Drink Champs’.
Floyd’s family made a joint statement in a press release announcing the filing of the lawsuit on behalf of Roxie Washington, the mother of George Floyd’s daughter and his immediate family.
The press release states the suit filed by Roxie Washington is on the behalf of her and Floyd’s minor child (who is the sole beneficiary of Floyd’s estate). Her daughter is currently being represented by two law firms, Witherspoon Law Group and Dixon & Dixon Attorneys at Law jointly. They are seeking $250 million in damages.
The law firms issued a joint statement regarding the case:
“Kanye’s comments are a repugnant attempt to discount George Floyd’s life and to profit from his inhumane death,” attorney Pat D. Dixon III said, adding that the goal here is to “hold Mr. West accountable” for his “flagrant remarks” against Floyd.”
The lawsuit is not solely against Ye, but also his “business partners” and “associates.” This could possibly mean both Revolt TV and Drink Champs podcast could very well be held accountable financially as well.
“The argument is that Ye’s comments, which included false claims about Floyd’s murder, amounted to “harassment, misappropriation, defamation, and infliction of emotional distress.”
